Hello guys...for dis time i nk citer skit pasal pengalaman i sepanjang clinical or prtikel kt Nuclear Medicine Department di spital Penang ni...My training period at here is e week...so..not too much i learned but i wanna to share wit u all....
In nuclear medicine radionuclides-unstable atoms that emit radiotion spontaneously - are used to diagnose and trent disease. Radionuclides are purified and compounded to form radiopharmaceuticals.
- History of Nuclear Medicine:
1895-discovery of x-ray by Roentgen
1896-discovery of radioactivity by Bequerel
1898-production of radium by Curie
1927-use of radon to measure the blood transit time.
1930s-invention of cyclotron by Lawrence
1945-invention of nuclear reactor
1951-rectilinear scanner to acquire images
1958-invention of Anger camera
1964-use of Tc-99m (Technicium) (I-131 only prior to 1964)
Tc-99m : Metastable (T1/2 = 6.01 hr)
pure y decay (E=140 Kev) flexible for labeling
I-131 : electrons and 364 Kev photons, thyroid disorders only.
1970-derivation of image reconstruction algorithm for tomography ( CT, SPECT, PET )
1998-rapid spread of PET and PET/CT
So what is radioactivity?..Radioactivity is spontaneous emission of radiation..is reduce as radioactive atom decay..
-are unstable
-change or Decay until they became stable
-give off surplus energy by emitting radiation.
-The time taken to reach half the previous radiactivity
1-Iodine-131 -8 days
2-Carbon -14 -5730 years
3-Uranium-238 -4.5 billion years
What is Radiation?
-energy moving through space as invisible waves.
Non - ionizing radiation..
-Light,sound,heat or infrared waves, radio waves, low frequency power line radiation.
ermmm....what else to share ha....ohw...how do we quantify radioactivity?
-Disintegrations Per second (d/s)
-The number of atomic nuclei that decay each second.
Then..to quantify radiation exposure is:
- Rem or Sievert (1 REM = 0.01 sievert)
-Unit of absorbed dose in the body measuring the damage done by the energy deposited.
huh....im sleepiness....so guys enough for part one...i'll continue in part two...wasalam...=)
